Annie Mills – I paint for relaxation and pleasure, in watercolour and acrylic mainly, and will tackle any subject and am always looking for the next challenge. I'm secretary of the Uckfield Art Group and really enjoy painting with like-minded people who love art.

Mike Tann  ”Having discovered acrylic paints, I have in recent years specialised in paintings of boats and buildings. I have also manipulated an American technique to produce unusual abstract watercolours.”

Clio Pinkney "Through abstract painting I am exploring colour, shape and surface texture finding inspiration from nature and the inner landscape."
Art22 is a group of Sussex-based contemporary artists who take an experimental and expressive approach to their work. The group was set up in 2002 by artists who had previously been students at South Downs College.
Anne Marie Brody (above) “My paintings express, through colour and texture, the meeting point between my experiences and my response to them, the place where the outside world meets the inner one."

Having worked together for many years a unique understanding has built up of each other’s character, work habits and artistic development. The group provides a forum for each member, now working on their own, to give each other feedback, encouragement and stimulation.

In 2004 the group held its first group exhibition called “Time to Stand and Stare” at the Greenstede Gallery, Chequer Mead in East Grinstead. That was followed in 2006 by “Natural Forms” at The Crypt in Seaford and then in 2007 by “Fusion” at the Thebes Gallery in Lewes. In March 2008 the group took part in a very successful “Open House” during the Eastbourne Festival.

All members of Art22 are art school trained and they regularly take part in exhibitions in London and around the country. Exhibitions include the Society of Women Artists, the Eastbourne Group of Contemporary Artists, Art on the River, Lewes Art Wave, EAC Art Awards (Mall Gallery), Ashdown Forest Centre, Newhaven Art Trail and the Lingfield Art Show.

Sarah Stokes (above) "My work is inspired by found curiosities, natural or man made. These in turn become something other, "myth-scapes" alluding to an awareness of the subtle transformations that occur."
